It was decided that for the December 2008 clubnight and Christmas fun evening the annual competition would be ----Quoits.

They were to be made with the external measurement of 200mm and internal 150mm.

There were some excellent specimens turned by members and most of them decorated, some even with glitter of gold or silver, but all worthy of being showcased.

----------------------------------------------------------------

For the 2009 competition the subject was a cannon.

Using one (maybe two) elastic band(s) to fire the marble at a target over a measured distance.

Elastic bands and marbles had to be regulation sizes so they were supplied by the club to all entrants.

At the December 2007 clubnight we held another special competition.
This time the subject was to turn (in advance)..........A BOWLING BALL- max 6 inches in diameter.

This was great fun, just to see the results of the bowling balls and just how round some people actually managed to turn them.

Mike Hosking had turned a set of skittles and then made a backboard and frame so that the walls and windows didn't get damaged. Each person that had made a ball had two attempts at knocking down the skittles. Most of them managed to find the target ok but there is always an exception of course,
and his ball - ( having more bends in it than the A 30), went it's own route.

However all in all a great night was had by all

At the December 2006 clubnight we held a special competition, subject ................

A tractor pull.

THE RULES

This should consist of a Tractor/vehicle pulling a trailer which can be loaded. It should be made from wood and be powered by 2 rubber bands, supplied by the club. For traction on the floor the wheels can be fitted with rubber bands to act as tyres. The winner will be the rig which can pull the trailer carrying the most weight. If 2 rigs tie on weight the furthest distance pulled will decide.

As usual this was in addition to the TOTY open competition on the night.

Entering the competitions is not compulsory but is encouraged as awards are given in the form of permanent medals and annual trophies.

Here are some of the entries that we had for this competition

With more new members joining, including some juniors, learner nights are becoming so popular and well attended. It has therefore been decided that these sessions will now be held on Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

It has been necessary to introduce a booking system for members to attend in order to make the best use of the lathes available.

So if you are interested in coming along the please speak to either:-
Dennis Williams (01736 741188) or Mike Hosking (01209 314532).
